The Right Choice...
A behavior-based interview to assess EQ-emotional competence real-time!
40% of newly hired or promoted managers and executives fail within 18 months of starting new jobs, according to research by Manchester, Inc, a leadership development firm. And the primary reasons for failing are "failure to establish a cultural fit" and "failure to build teamwork with staff and peers". Both reasons are squarely related to EQ.
It is now widely accepted that individuals with well-developed emotional intelligence (EQ) far outperform others in the workplace. The performance gap is dramatic and it widens as jobs increase in complexity and interdependence. So hiring and promoting individuals with well-developed EQ may be a wise investment for reducing the 40% failure rate and increasing the probability of hiring peak performers.
The Right Choice...A Unique New Tool Can Help You Select The Right Candidate
The Right Choice is a unique new behavior-based interviewing tool that provides a forum for candidates to demonstrate their EQ real-time. It shows their philosophy and style of relating to others in the workplace, as well as their ability to learn from their experience.
This tool allows you to assess candidates' real behavior rather than relying on what candidates say about themselves. Behavior observations eliminate interviewer bias and guessing.
The Right Choice Is A Fair Yet Dynamic Assessment Tool
This tool assesses candidates' core EQ capacities of Self-Refection-Self-Observation, Self-Regulation, and Empathy. Candidates are asked to watch a series of video segments showing people talking to the candidate with various issues, questions, and problems. Interviewers use structured questions to help guide candidates describe their experience as they listened to each segment. Candidates' responses are documented and used to determine their EQ.
Candidates are also asked to respond to the individual on each segment, as if the person were in the room. Their response provides insight into what a candidate believes is appropriate in relating to others in difficult situations as a peer, subordinate, or boss.
The Right Choice Interview Components
- Administrative Handbook
- 20 Video segments --organized by type of work relationship. Provided on CD and/or Video Tape
- Interviewer's Guide
- Documentation forms for twenty video segments
- Recommendation forms
Trained-Certified Interviewers Ensure Accuracy And Fairness
Project managers and internal interviewers are trained and certified in the use of this product. Prior to this training, participants will take an EQ Assessment tool and a printed report with an explanation of the core concepts that are assessed in the Right Choice too. The two day training includes key concepts of Emotional Intelligence: what is emotional intelligence, the core capacities that are the foundation for all competency development, how it is developed throughout our lives, why emotional intelligence is important, what high EQ and low EQ in the workplace look like.
The tool is reviewed giving particular attention to the guidelines and the step-by-step process. All trainees participate in a complete interview process that is conducted by the instructors. This experience helps participants understand the material and what candidates experience. The debriefing and discussion help learn and integrate the theory and process. Participants then conduct an interviewing process, including interviewing, documenting, and recommending a specific candidate. Coaching is offered as appropriate. A final discussion addresses specific questions and any unique client issues.
